The stained glass workshop was initially designed by the Turkish partners, however, due to various safety issues it was not carried out in Turkey but at respective partner schools.
During the Gothic period and the Renaissance (1100s–1500s) stained glass was one of the foremost techniques of painting practiced in Europe. This is why we decided to include it in our projects – so students would learn an antique technique and add it a modern twist.
The term stained glass derives from the silver stain that was often applied to the side of the window that would face the outside of the building. When the glass was fired, the silver stain turned a yellow colour that could range from lemon to gold.
In this workshop students first chose a pattern of their own, then they decided on the colours of the glass depending on how they wanted the colours to shine in the light. After that they applied the pattern to the glass and coloured it further. What they were left with were beautiful pieces of stained glass.
