From 12 to 16 October 2015 our third transnational meeting was held in Overpelt, Belgium. It was really a pleasure to see each other again after the summer holiday. All together more than 20 teachers participated. On Tuesday we went on a prospection trip to Antwerp, Flanders' biggest city and one of the most important European ports. Antwerp is a city that inspires many artists. We arrived in the central station, an eclectic building, listed as one of the most beautiful train stations in the world. We rented bikes and drove past several places of interest, such as the Jewish district and the very nice Cogels Osylei, a street filled with houses from the 19th century and an architectural mix of Art Nouveau, Jugendstill and Neoclassism. We also cycled to 't Eilandje', a new hotspot near the port of Antwerp. The MAS-museum over there was built a few years ago and it is really a landmark. We discovered some graffiti in the neighbourhood of the summer bar. We also saw the fashion museum, painter Rubens' house, the cathedral and city hall. Our visitors all agreed the trip to Antwerp is something we should offer the students when they come to Belgium.
In the evening, we had a dinner-meeting where we further discussed the excursion to Antwerp ( focus for students) and how to organize the seminar ‘Philosophical approach to art’ during the students meeting.
On Wednesday we did a 'grand tour' around the school and paid special attention to the art classes where Belgian students were working with different techniques. Then we sat together and worked on the project's planning and further organization. Also on the agenda were the evaluation of the project and the dissemination of the key activities. We collaborated very well. In the afternoon we visited the Glass House museum, where we were lucky to watch glassblowers and glass artists at work. Because the Glass House building is also a work of art in itself, it's worthwhile of enlisting it in the program of the upcoming students meeting. The afternoon was completed with a visit to the German military cemetery and the Polish cemetery. In the evening we held a great pizza contest in school.
On Thursday we went to Ghent, medieval city. Ghent is a lively hotchpotch of cultures and ideas. There are so many historical buildings and monuments, especially those of the 'World
Heritage Site’ listed by the UNESCO: the Belfry of Ghent , the Cloth hall and Mammelokker. The visit to Ghent was impressive and inspiring. It was decided to plan this excursion during the student meeting in November.
In the evening, we had a last dinner together.
Full of new ideas and already looking forward to the students meeting in November, we said goodbyes.
