During the short-term exchange to Romania, students learned about the traditional Romanian garments, patterns, festivities and customs. At school, they were involved in a traditional Romanian blouse workshop. With the help of Romanian mentors, they have learned to recreate the traditional motifs and stitches. First, they applied the patterns on a smaller piece of cloth, then worked on the actual blouse. The work could not be done in one week, of course, but each country took their blouse back home and could continue working on it in the weeks to come.
We have decided to include the pottery and blouse activities into our project, because we believe that preserving world heritage is a must in our global society. This way, we continue to produce objects and garments which bear witness of the past customs and crafts, and thus contribute to building networks among nations.
